The Binissalem region has a long-standing tradition of wine production and became a "Denomination of Origin" at the end of 1990.

The BINISSALEM MAJORCA region is located at the heart of the island of Majorca, and includes the towns of Sencelles, Binissalem, Santa María del Camí, Consell and Santa Eugenia, in order of area of registered vineyards.
The Sierra de Tramuntana or de Alfabia range of hills protects them from cold northern winds, proving a mild microclimate. The climate can be described as mild Mediterranean, with warm dry summers and short winters. Average annual rainfall is 450 mm.
The land is quaternary continental sediments rich in calcium, creating brown soil or limy brown soils which sometimes have limestone crust horizons. There are rolling hills. The vineyards are located at an altitude of between 75 and 200 metres above sea level.
